Your Guide to Eating an Eye-Healthy Thanksgiving Meal!
Here are some Thanksgiving favorites and their benefits to eye health.
There’s nothing quite like roasted turkey, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. The Thanksgiving table is certainly a symbol of abundance, a meal that nourishes the bond of family and tradition. This meal also has another added bonus: Much of the food on the Thanksgiving table is healthy for your eyesight! Check out some of your favorites below.
1- Turkey: Roasted turkey is full of zinc and B-vitamin niacin, which helps to obstruct the development of Cataracts. Cataracts are the leading reason for vision loss in the USA. So, enjoy as much turkey as you want this year, you are preventing cataracts with every bite!
2- Cranberry Sauce: Cranberries contain bioflavonoids, a large class of antioxidants. Bioflavonoids help to protect eyes from damage caused our body’s metabolic process, and by pollution. Make sure to have extra cranberry sauce this year so you’ll have some leftovers.
3- Pumpkin Pie: Pumpkin Pie is one of the best deserts with a high source of vitamin A. One cup of cooked, mashed pumpkin actually has over 200 percent of the suggested daily intake of Vitamin A. Vitamin A provides nourishment and protection to the eye’s macula, lens, and cornea as well as improves night vision.
Vision Therapy Success Story
Our Five Points Eye Care Vision Therapy Clinic helps kids who are struggling to read and have problems with their schoolwork. We also work to give them back their confidence. Lily is one such success story.
Lily was failing school, had poor handwriting and struggled to sit and read for long periods. Her eyes had trouble working together and tracking words as she was reading. After beginning Vision Therapy, Lily now has a new gained confidence and is excelling at school and reading! Teachers have even noticed the great improvement! Her family feels that Noemi is a wonderful therapist who is encouraging and very uplifting and has already recommended Vision Therapy to others.
The Fred Award
Every month, we have our employees nominate another employee for our “Fred Award.” A “Fred” is someone who goes out of their way to uphold our practice core values of Excellence in Eye Care, Patients Come First, and Lead by Example. As a practice, we not only want our employees to come to work to get the day’s job done, but to strive to work harder each and every day for the sake of the practice as a whole.
The Fred Award for the month of November goes to… April Vetterkind and Marie Miller!
April and Marie are always willing to do whatever it takes to make sure our Five Points Eye Care Team succeeds and meets the company’s goals! Congratulations ladies.
