Dry Eye Doesn’t Take a Holiday!

How Is Dry Eye Syndrome Diagnosed.jpg

Tips on how to treat and prevent dry eye:

Dry eye is much more likely to occur during winter and spring. While you can’t change the weather, there are some things you can do to treat dry eye and prevent it from occurring.

1. Prevention: The best preventions for dry eye revolve around finding ways to avoid environments that are harsh and dry. This includes avoiding the use of hair dryers, especially in situations where they might blow hot air directly into your eyes. Not using your heater as heavily during winter months can also help to prevent dry environments that can affect your eyes. Wearing glasses over contacts is one final method that can help to protection against harsh winds that can easily dry out your eye.

2. Treatment: Common initial treatments for dry eye include warm compresses with massage, lubrication (not get the red out drops!), and humidifiers. Depending on the severity of dry eye, your doctor may have to prescribe prescription medications as well. If your eyes are red and irritated, lubrication with artificial tears can help to restore natural moisture to your eyes. However, there are many reasons the eyes get red and irritated so see your eye doctor if they do not feel better with these initial treatments.

Vision Therapy Success Story

Our Five Points Eye Care Vision Therapy Clinic helps kids who are struggling to read and have problems with their schoolwork. We also work to give them back their confidence. Lily is one such success story.

Lily was failing school, had poor handwriting and struggled to sit and read for long periods. Her eyes had trouble working together and tracking words as she was reading. After beginning Vision Therapy, Lily now has a new gained confidence and is excelling at school and reading! Teachers have even noticed the great improvement! Her family feels that Noemi is a wonderful therapist who is encouraging and very uplifting and has already recommended Vision Therapy to others.

The Fred Award

CourtneyEvery month, we have our employees nominate another employee for our “Fred Award.” A “Fred” is someone who goes out of their way to uphold our practice core values of Excellence in Eye Care, Patients Come First, and Lead by Example. As a practice, we not only want our employees to come to work to get the day’s job done, but to strive to work harder each and every day for the sake of the practice as a whole.

The Fred Award for the month of December goes to… Courtney!

Courtney is our newest Five Points Eye Care team member, and she is nothing short to a perfect match for our hard-working team. Courtney is constantly learning as much as she can and putting on a bright smile while doing so. Congratulations Courtney!
