Clean Hands Save Sight

Handwashing is a simple yet effective way to curb contamination, but evidence suggests as many as half of contact lens wearers aren’t frequently practicing good hand hygiene, upping their infection risk.

Although contact lenses are a safe, effective vision correction option for nearly 45 million Americans, there are many reasons why all contact lenses are classified as medical devices by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and sight-threatening infections are one of them. As many as 1 in 3 contact lens wearers experience a complication requiring further care and 1 in 5 cases of contact lens-related infections result in corneal damage. Inadequate hand washing and contact lens hygiene increases the risk for the development of painful corneal ulcers and inflammation.

While it’s nearly impossible to get hands and fingers sterile before contact lens insertion, hand washing with a non-lanolin soap and drying with a clean towel, taking extra care to make sure that all creams and oily substances have been thoroughly washed off, are still the best recommendations for reducing bacteria and viruses that can cause infections. Speak to one of our technicians if you have any questions about contact lenses or if you’d like to set up an appointment for a fitting!

Vision Therapy Success Story

Our Vision Therapy Clinic helps kids who are struggling to read and have problems with their schoolwork. We also work to give them back their confidence. Athena is one such success story.

Athena’s grades were inconsistent and an evaluation pointed to a visual processing issue. She successfully completed Vision Therapy and both her vision and her grades improved tremendously. She also has her confidence back. Athena’s parents were grateful to both Dr. Brya and Noemi for identifying her needs and personalizing her treatment plan. They would most definitely recommend the Vision Therapy program to others!

Five Points Eyecare Employees

Every month, we have our employees nominate another employee for our “Fred Award.” A “Fred” is someone who goes out of their way to uphold our practice core values of Excellence in Eye Care, Patients Come First, and Lead by Example. As a practice, we not only want our employees to come to work to get the day’s job done, but to strive to work harder each and every day for the sake of the practice as a whole.

The Fred Award for the month of March goes to all our Five Points Eyecare employees!

Everyone came together last month to make March go as smoothly as possible here in the office. Kudos to each and every person here for exemplifying FPEC values and for making sure that patients always come first!
