Dr. Forche Gives Back: AWC & Prevent Blindness Georgia
At Five Points Eye Care, we believe strongly in the importance of recognizing the hard work done by our eye care team to give back to the community around us. That’s why we are proud to highlight the incredible efforts made by our very own Dr. Nadine Forche, in partnership with Prevent Blindness Georgia and Athens Wellness Clinic (AWC), to provide uninsured patients in our community and surrounding communities with free, essential vision care. Her work at AWC’s Vision Clinic demonstrates the power of community collaboration in improving lives through accessible healthcare.
Making an Impact Through Vision Care
Working with this program has allowed Dr. Forche to offer basic vision care to those in need, particularly the uninsured population in Athens who often struggle to access even routine eye exams. For her, participation at the Vision Clinic is profoundly fulfilling. “The patients are so grateful, and I know I am making a difference in their day-to-day lives with better vision,” she shares.
Beyond writing new prescriptions, Dr. Forche often diagnoses serious conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease, ensuring underserved patients receive the follow-up care they desperately need. These diagnoses have the potential to greatly improve not just a patient’s sight but their overall quality of life.
A Memorable Patient Story
Among the many patients Dr. Forche has helped was a man who had been waiting for the clinic's opening for months, wearing an old, broken pair of glasses that were far from his correct prescription. His severe nearsightedness meant his lenses were thick and cumbersome. Thanks to Dr. Forche’s efforts, he was able to receive new frames and the proper prescription, significantly improving his quality of life. It’s the many cases like these that inspire Dr. Forche and our whole eye care team to continue giving back to our community to make the world around us a better place.
Understanding the Struggles of Uninsured Patients
Due to her many experiences with AWC, Dr. Forche has gained a deep understanding of the challenges uninsured patients face. She is inspired by the incredible resilience she sees in these individuals, many of whom are working hard to improve their health despite financial difficulties. The compassionate care offered at the Vision Clinic fosters a supportive, respectful environment for patients who may not otherwise receive such attention in other medical settings.
The Power of Teamwork and Community
Dr. Forche’s work at AWC has changed her approach to patient care, emphasizing the importance of collaboration. She believes more than ever in the effectiveness of teamwork among providers and partners to help patients live a better life through caring, compassionate assistance and clear vision.
Through her work at the Vision Clinic, Dr. Forche exemplifies the spirit of community healthcare, where compassion and commitment create meaningful change. By offering accessible eye care, she is helping uninsured patients in Georgia see a clearer, healthier future.
